The Lag #7: Animal Crossing New Horizons

Welcome to The Lag, the podcast from New Game+ where we focus on the games too old to be new and too new to be retro.

Just as New Game+ promotes the belief that valuable discussion of games never expires, The Lag aims to carry that spirit by focusing on the old ones as much as the new ones. Alex Dewing and Olly Smith, the editors of New Game+ will act as your guides through The Lag, stopping to look at everything from RPGs to graphic adventure games.

Can you believe that Animal Crossing: New Horizons was released over a year ago now? We can’t here at New Game+, so with the help of our first guest, GamesRadar’s Heather Wald, we’re looking back over the last year of New Horizons for our latest episode of The Lag. From barren island to personal paradise, Nintendo’s latest in the Animal Crossing franchise lets you design a community of your own with some interesting new mechanics that really let you get your creative hats on.

Alex, Olly, and Heather chat about their relationships with the franchise, how they’ve found the latest edition, and, most importantly, who their favourite islanders are. So, put on your construction hats and grab your tools and, as with all episodes of The Lag, be warned for spoilers throughout (if you can be spoiled for Animal Crossing!).

The Lag will be back next month with a game that asks you to bring the yo and the ho, and we can’t wait to dive in. If you have any suggestions for what you’d like to see us play, get in touch or leave a reply.

As with all our episodes, you can listen and subscribe on Spotify, Anchor, Google Podcasts, and iTunes. So sit down, grab your consoles, and get ready as we take you through The Lag.
