The Lag #6: Little Nightmares

Welcome to The Lag, the podcast from New Game+ where we focus on the games too old to be new and too new to be retro.

Just as New Game+ promotes the belief that valuable discussion of games never expires, The Lag aims to carry that spirit by focusing on the old ones as much as the new ones. Alex Dewing and Olly Smith, the editors of New Game+ will act as your guides through The Lag, stopping to look at everything from RPGs to graphic adventure games.

To celebrate the release of Little Nightmares 2 we’re donning our yellow jackets and creeping into Little Nightmares. This moody and macabre game asks you to take on the role of Six, a young girl, as she tries to escape The Maw, the mysterious place that Six calls home. And what a home it it, full of terrifying chases, creepy puzzles, and some real monstrous figures. Alex dives in for the first time, and with expected amounts of horror, while Olly comes back from a recent replay. In this episode they discuss the brilliance of sound engineering, some questionable character designs, and do a whole lot of theorising. As with all episodes of The Lag, be warned for heavy spoilers throughout.

The Lag will be back next month where we’ll be discussing a newer release that might just make you feel a little bit old… If you have any suggestions for what you’d like to see us play, get in touch or leave a reply.

As with all our episodes, you can listen and subscribe on Spotify, Anchor, Google Podcasts, and iTunes. So sit down, grab your consoles, and get ready as we take you through The Lag.
